After some months away from blogging while I worked on the first draft of an upcoming novel, I’m excited to announce that on Saturday the 8th I’ll be signing copies of “Heartstrings in B-flat Minor” at BARBARA’S BOOKSTORE in Vernon Hills, IL. Later in the month I’ll be at another BARBARA’S BOOKSTORE location, in Burr Ridge, IL.
See “Media & Events” for more details on these appearances. If you’ll be in the area for either of them, it would be great to meet you. Please drop in and say hi, and I’ll be delighted to sign any number of books for you.
Shifting gears, tonight as I write this blog entry it still is D-Day. I’ve been in weird if not somber surroundings all day. Fog has been rolling in off the big inland sea a stone’s throw from my balcony, intensifying by evening. By nighttime, sadly, I heard through online channels that a writer friend of mine, a friend since high school, Carla Anne Ernst, had died last night.
Carla would’ve found a shred of humor in knowing word of her death was reaching some of her back-home friends in a fog. Carla was an amazing person. She will be missed. May she Rest In Peace.
In you’re looking for a change-of-pace read, try Carla’s unique book, “Life Without Pockets: My Long Journey into Womanhood.” Peace.
Scott will be signing copies of his novel “Heartstrings in B-flat Minor” at the Vernon Hills, Illinois location of Barbara’s Bookstore. See below link from the website for more information.
8 SAT
12 P Meet Scott Johnson. In his newest book, Heartstrings in B-Flat Minor, tells the story of a woman named Sheryl Taylor and her journey in overcoming financial and emotional betrayal.
Not to put a damper on this day made for expressions of love, but evil unfolds as it wishes regardless of special dates on a calendar. Eleven years ago today, Valentine’s Day, my daughter was in her final semester at Northern Illinois University. I happened to be on the phone with her discussing car issues when her roommate frantically called from a building next to another where a mass shooting suddenly was in motion. It was surreal. All other issues vanished. People were being killed randomly blocks away from my daughter, as we spoke, and a stone’s throw away from her terrified roommate. Horrible day. As you’d imagine, I was just grateful to know my daughter was safe before news of the tragedy even broke.
To state the obvious, school shootings need to end. Even more obvious, that’s no easy task. Bad stuff always slips through the cracks. More and more bad stuff too often seems like the new norm. As evidenced by today’s also being the one-year anniversary of the Parkland School Massacre.
Each new school shooting dulls memories of previous ones. Then there’s the passage of time. But all victims and their families need remembering, and honoring. Their sacrifices have been unimaginable.
Barbara’s Bookstore has invited me back for another book signing this Saturday the 26th. That’s their Hawthorn Mall location in Vernon Hills, IL
Starting January 21st, a 30-second ad for my book will air 22 times over a two-week period on 7 major cable networks serving Chicagoland. The networks are Animal Planet, E!, Lifetime Movie Network, OWN, Travel Channel, Bravo and Lifetime.
